Semi-annual Cash for Clothes Sale, Oct. 25-27, in Camden
CAMDEN — The semi-annual Cash for Clothes Sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 25 through Monday, Oct. 27, at the American Legion Hall on Pearl Street in Camden. The Cash for Clothes Sale is the major community fundraising event to benefit Coastal Opportunities, an agency that assists adults with intellectual disabilities to become participating members in their social and economic communities.
The Fall 2014 Sale will mark the 80th Cash for Clothes Sale! The very first Cash for Clothes Sale was staged in the former Coffin’s Clothing building on Main Street in downtown Rockland in the spring of 1975. In honor of the Sale’s decade of origin, Cash for Clothes attendees will be treated to music from the 1970s as they shop the sale at the American Legion Hall in Camden on Saturday and Sunday. Shoppers will also be treated to special prize drawings throughout the weekend.
If you wish to sell clothing at the Sale, you must pre-register. Clothing will be sold on a 50/50 basis, with half of the profit going to the seller, and half to Coastal Opportunities. When selecting clothing to sell, remember that only good quality fall and winter clothing will be accepted for this sale.
You will register your name and address, be given identification tags, lists for clothing, and instruction sheets. If you can’t come yourself to pre-registration, a friend can do it for you.
Remember to submit clothing that you are willing to donate if it goes unsold, as all clothing remaining at the end of the sale will be packaged up and donated to charity.
Cash for Clothes has planned two weekends for pre-registration, which will be held at the Thomas Corcoran Center on 35 Limerock Street in Camden. If you want to sell clothing at the Sale, you may pre-register on Friday, Oct. 10, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., or on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pre-registration will also be held on Friday, Oct. 17, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and onSaturday, October 18, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Garments that are torn, stained, or out of season will not be accepted.
Clothing items from any season will be accepted as donations for the Sale, at Coastal Opportunities on 35 Limerock Street in Camden any time during the year. If you wish to donate the entire proceeds from the sale of your clothing to Coastal Opportunities, you do not need to pre-register. Simply take your clothing to Coastal Opportunities any time before the Sale. Volunteers will tag and price the clothing for you.
Cash for Clothes welcomes new volunteers to work on various aspects of the sale. Times are available both prior to and during the Sale. Volunteers who work four or more hours qualify to attend the Cash for Clothes Pre-Sale.
If you wish to volunteer or have questions about joining the volunteer staff, call Nancy Wolfertz at 594-5429, or sign up online through www.coastalopportunities.org.
This fall, two area businesses have come forward to co-sponsor the 80th Sale. Allen Insurance & Financial and The First will be underwriting a significant portion of the operating costs associated with staging the Cash for Clothes fall sale.
