BRUNSWICK — The UUCB Concerts for a Cause series presents the Portland-based choral group Women in Harmony, Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 7:30 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick, 1 Middle Street, Brunswick. SEARSMONT — Friday, March 7, from 5 - 6 p.m., Searsmont Town Library will host an opening for local artist Emma Schurink, whose art will hang on the library walls in March and April. 

ROCKLAND — The classic musical Singin’ in the Rain (1952) will be screened as a “Singer's Pick” film in the Strand Theatre’s Conversation Series on Saturday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m. As part of the event, the screening will be preceded by a conversation with local musician Addie Hamilton Heissler, a Grammy and Emmy nominated singer, songwriter, and performer. 

ROCKPORT — “Numerous Structures,” a show of artwork by Jon Merritt, will be on display at the Rockport Public Library from March 4 through March 29, 2025. Merritt will give a presentation related to the exhibit on Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m., where he will present his thesis on the role of abstract art.

BELFAST — On Friday, March 7, let your shoes fly at the First Friday Community Dance & Contra Dance.

The intergenerational program begins at 6 p.m., when the All Comers Band warms up and chooses tunes with ACB leader, Maise Newell. The band is open to all ages, instruments, and skill levels; tunes are posted at belfastflyingshoes.org. The easy-to-learn Community Dance led by Chrissy Fowler starts at 6:30 p.m.

This month, the 8 p.m. Contra Dance features VT caller Mary Wesley with locals Benjamin Foss and Bennett Konesni, with Ethan Tischler on sound.

SEARSPORT — Searsport District High School will premiere an original one act, “Being Brontë”, written by SDHS alum Grace Scharlacken, this Thursday evening, February 27, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at Mt. View. An educational comedy of sorts, “Being Brontë” toggles back and forth between a pair of modern podcasters who imagine life in the Brontë household, and the Brontë family themselves – Victorian writers Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë, Aunt Elizabeth Branwell, and brother Branwell Brontë.

ROCKPORT — The Rockport Public Library announces a new horticulture series in partnership with Merryspring Nature Center. In monthly talks from March through May, Merryspring Nature Center Program Director John Fromer (and Maine Master Gardener Volunteer) will offer free gardening classes at the Rockport library covering a variety of topics and culminating in a special tour on Merryspring’s flower gardens in mid-June.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer a webinar titled, “Gardening in a Changing Climate: What Maine Gardeners Need to Know,” Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 6 - 7:15 p.m.

BELFAST — Left Bank Books, in downtown Belfast, invites the public to a free talk by New York Times best-selling author Tess Gerritsen on Thursday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m., to celebrate that week’s release of The Summer Guests, the second book in her espionage series.

In a pivot from the international locales of Bangkok and Rome in The Spy Coast, the first book in the series, The Summer Guests is entirely set in Midcoast Maine.

ROCKLAND — The Rockland Public Library presents Kirk Gentalen, Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to all.

ROCKLAND — Violin virtuosos Sons of Mystro, brothers Malcolm and Umoja, will present a workshop for intermediate and advanced level string players before their performance on the Strand Theatre stage on Thursday, March 20. The workshop will take place from 5 - 6 p.m., and the concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m.

Those who participate in the workshop will be invited to perform one song on stage with the band. Music charts will be presented in advance, with the preference for students to memorize the music.

MORRILL — Having been rescheduled, the MidCoast Maine Community Square Dance Party will now take place Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Morrill Community Center (the old Honesty Grange 83), 4 North Main Street, Morrill, ME  04952).

The band for this month’s concert and dance is “Beat Bucket” which includes: Molly Gawler with fiddle and vocals and Shepsi Eaton with piano and vocals. Caller will be Chris Ricciotti with guest caller Molly Gawler.

The Camden Garden Club presents Kerry Ann Mendez, author of a variety of books on gardening, and an engaging speaker. She will be the last presenter for the Winter Horticulture Series. Her timely topic is “Time-Saving, Mighty-Mite Shrubs that Outshine Perennials.” 

BELFAST — The Belfast Ice Festival, presented by Stanley Chevrolet and Maine Chevy Dealers, returns to downtown Belfast for the fifth year on February 21 - 23, 2025. The State of Maine Ice Carving Championship, presented by Rollies Bar & Grill, returns to the corner of Main and Cross streets, from 1 - 3 p.m., on Saturday, February 22.

BELFAST — Local Color Gallery, in Belfast, plans a full evening of art and poetry for its first Fourth Friday event of 2025, February 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. 

CAMDEN — Camden Opera House, 29 Elm St., presents Welcome Home – The Legacy of Carole King, an evening with acclaimed vocalist/pianist Michelle Foster and her trio, Saturday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m.

Foster has performed this program in more than 12 states, but this is the first time she will present it on the Midcoast, where she has many extended family members.

“I am truly excited to be bringing the show to Maine because I grew up spending a lot of my summers up in Camden/Rockland,” she said in a Camden Opera Hose news release.

CAMDEN — West Bay Rotary Club is presenting Karen Morgan’s “Shiny Happy People Laughing” comedy show at the Camden Opera House on March 29.

The evening promises to be filled with nostalgic and hilarious comedy material, as Karen takes a hysterical trip back to a time when rocks were pets, carpets were shag, and bike seats were bananas.

This clean comedy show is particularly suited for folks of a certain age who grew up playing outside without bike helmets, adult supervision, or bottled water-and still managed to survive.

ROCKLAND — Celtic supergroup Reverie Road will perform at the Strand Theatre on Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. Reverie Road is a fresh, eclectic Celtic group, featuring fiddler Winifred Horan and accordionist John Williams (founding Solas members) alongside former Gaelic Storm fiddler Katie Grennan and Jazz and Raga pianist Utsav Lal (a Young Steinway Artist).
