Archie E. Mitchell, obituary
UNION — Our dad died and we are heartbroken. Archie E. Mitchell, age 94, died in the Special Care Unit at Pen Bay Hospital with peace, dignity and love on February 16, 2025 after a tragic fall at home. He lived independently at his home in Union until the very end.
Our dad did the ordinary, extraordinarily well. He was born in the Camden Community Hospital on Mountain Street on October 14, 1930. Dad went to Nichols College, was an Air Force Veteran, attended the University of Connecticut (where he met our beautiful mom) and got his MBA at Seton Hall.
Our dad was a quiet, smart, dignified and respected gentleman, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He served on high school boards so that he could be involved in his children’s education. He was proud to be a 70-year member of Putnam 46 A.F. & A.M. Lodge in South Woodstock, Connecticut.
Archie was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Maryann H. Mitchell in 2018.
He will be loved, missed and survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Bobby Purkey of Camden, Morgan and Bert Forster of Liberty, Margaret Mitchell and Joe Linde of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia; grandchildren, Connor, Stephen, Ian, Mary, Mitchell, Thomas, Peter; and great grandchildren, Iris, Riley, Declan and Callen.
The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to the Pen Bay Emergency Room Staff and Special Care Unit Nurses. Also, for the care, kindness and friendship shown by Rick and Darlene Starrett, and Alvin Chase and Aaron Chase at Eastern Tire. Thank you all so very much.
Archie requested no funeral or memorial services, rather his family and friends remember him alive, healthy, and the beautiful soul he was. We will miss him.
