Arthur M. Andrews, obituary
CAMDEN — Arthur Morrill Andrews, 90, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025 at the Sussman House in Rockport. Born in Whiting on June 17, 1934, he was the son of Sherman and Josephine (Ingals) Andrews.
Arthur graduated from the Washington Academy in 1953 then Washington State Teacher’s College in Machias obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Arthur’s compassion for teaching led him to receive his Master’s in Education from the University of Maine. Arthur was a lifetime learner and obtained his Captain’s license in 1967.
In 1957, he married Marlene Bryant, then shortly thereafter, they moved to El Paso, Texas where Arthur served for two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss. Following his military discharge, the family moved back to Maine where he took his first teaching job in Albion. He later accepted a teaching position at the Mary E. Taylor Middle School in Camden. His hard work and love of teaching, prepared him to later take on the role of Principal of the Mary E. Taylor Middle School. When the new Arthur Andrews education wing was constructed at the school, it was dedicated to Arthur. In 1984, he retired.
After his retirement, Arthur focused on what he loved doing, lobster fishing and logging in the woods. His family opened “Capt’n. Andy’s” at his home in Camden selling live and cooked lobsters. They later operated the take-out business across from the Camden Hills State Park.
Arthur’s favorite joy out of life was spending time with his family and friends. With his jolly laugh, he managed to make people’s day ten times brighter.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his son, Mark E. Andrews.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Marlene Andrews; daughters, Cheryl Silar and her husband Thatcher; Suzanne Brown, and her partner Daniel Brown; grandchildren, Arthur Andrews, Jr., Chad Brown and his wife Jenny, Kristina Brown, McKenzie Brown, and Tanner Hilt; great grandchildren, Emily Brown, Taylor Brown, Wyatt Brown, Emma Dinsmore, Grayson Dinsmore, Nicholas Andrews, Arthur Andrews, and Aca Andrews; sister-in-law, Suzanne Bean; brother-in-law, Gordon Bryant and his wife, Peggy of Grand Lake Stream.
