TENANTS HARBOR — Robert Paul Cremonni, 90, died peacefully, Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Robert was born to Augustus Joseph and Genevieve (Balboni) Cremonni of Wellesley, Massachusetts, on August 27, 1934.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia; their two children, Matthew W. Cremonni and his wife Stacey, Helen (Cremonni) Schweizer and her husband William; his grandchildren, Matthew R. and his wife Tiffany, Michael, Katherine, and Sarah; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew J. and Lillian.
“Red” as most knew him, named for his red hair, grew up playing a variety of sports, beginning at Kingsbury Elementary School as the Baseball League Captain.
At Wellesley High School, Red lettered in football, wrestling, and baseball. He was co-captain of both the football and wrestling teams, leading Wellesley High School to state championships in both sports. The Red Raiders Varsity Football team was undefeated and untied for the first time in Wellesley history in 1952, under the leadership of both co-captains; Robert Cremonni and his dear friend Eddie Primavera.
After attending Northeastern University for one year, Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and was stationed in Germany, along with his brother, Gus, who was in the Air Force during the Korean War.
After an Honorable Discharge in 1956, Robert came home and married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia West, September 19, 1959. Robert went on to graduate from Babson Institute with a degree in Business Management in 1960.
Robert started his professional career as a Refinish Salesman in the Automotive and Industrial Finishes Division, E. I. Du Pont De Nemours & Company.
He worked his way up the ladder, moving from state to state across the country, eventually retiring from Du Pont as a Worldwide Marketing Manager, Maintenance Finishes.
Robert and Cynthia settled in Tenants Harbor, Maine in 1997, where Robert was an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, a Maine State Senior Golf Champion, served on the board of the Water Department responsible for planning and bringing public water to the houses in town, and was active in many community affairs along with his friends and fellow residents within this town that he loved so much.
Robert and Cynthia spent their retirement years travelling, sailing and motoring along the rugged Maine coast, building a barn, a children’s playhouse and tree house for the grandchildren, and hosting many loving family and friend gatherings over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Tenants Harbor in the Spring. The funeral will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellesley, Massachusetts, this summer.
The Cremonni family would like to express their gratitude to the St. George Firefighter and Ambulance Association volunteers, for the compassionate care that they provided, especially over the last few years.
