Nathan Ralph Pease, Jr., obituary
UNION — Beloved and fiercely devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Nathan R. Pease, Jr., went on to Glory on Nov. 2, 2024. Nate would always quote this little poem, “Here lies the body of old man Pease, buried beneath the flowers and trees. But Pease ain’t here, just the pod. Pease shucked out and went to God.” He passed on Saturday, November 2, 2024 which is very fitting for him as it was the opening day of hunting season.
Nate was born to Nathan Pease, Sr. and Ruth Morton Pease on May 21, 1936, on the family dairy farm in “Pease Town” in Hope. He enjoyed an idyllic childhood with his extended family on the farm.
At the age of 17, Nate chose his bride off the dance floor at Tranquility Grange in Lincolnville. He married Charlotte Hunt Pease 3 years later in Camden, at the Chestnut Street Baptist Church. They were married for 64 years.
Shortly after their marriage they went to Panama where Nate was stationed during the Korean War. He served 3 years in the U.S. Army. After the service they raised their family of 4 children in East Union.
Born a farmer, Nate, owned and operated Iona Farm in Lincolnville. He built cage houses and a large processing plant, SeaCoast, Inc, supplying eggs to Star Markets in New England for many years. Later he became an insurance broker and was the top producer for Farm Family Insurance serving the state of Maine. In his retirement, Nate established the Pease Insurance Agency which remains in operation today in West Rockport, Maine.
He felt it was an important to donate his time, so for many years, he volunteered at Togus VA serving as a shuttle driver and visiting his fellow veterans. At the same time, he served as a Trustee for Windsor State Fair, overseeing the Pulling and Livestock areas, allowing him to interact with many of the farmers he knew. Nate and a few of his friends created the Maine Snowmobile Association. They wrote the laws for snowmobiles that are still in effect today. Nate was the first president of the MSA and he served for many years.
Nate’s most important mission was leading people to Jesus Christ. He would want you to know what he called “God’s phone number.” You can look it up in Jeremiah 33:3 in the Bible.
Nate is predeceased by his parents; his loving wife; his son-in-law, Daniel Burns; his grandsons, Vincent Galkowski and Zacchary Aiken; and several poodles, too many to name here.
He is survived by his daughter Sonja Burns; his son, Vick Pease and his wife, Shanie; his daughter Stacey and her husband, John McKenzie V; his daughter Molly and her husband, Wayne Luce; grandchildren: Rachael Umstead, Nathan Pease, Myriah Sochurek, Annie and her husband Peter Gray, Victor Botley and his wife Chelsea, and Samuel Luce; his sister, Lynne Fernands and her sons, Joseph and Joshua Watmough; his nephew, Aaron Hunt; and several, very much loved, great grandchildren.
