Jeanne G. Bulanchuk, obituary
ST. GEORGE — Jeanne G. Bulanchuk died at home, Monday, August 26, 2024, just one week after her 94th birthday. She was born to John and Julia (Pugsley) DeGirolamo in Yonkers, New York on August 19, 1930.
Jeanne graduated from Gorton H.S. in Yonkers and began her working career at NY Telephone Co. She married George Bulanchuk in 1953. They relocated to Huntington, New York, and later to Northport, New York where they raised their family.
Jeanne was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young and went back to work when they were all in school. She worked for the Northport, New York School District as a secretary for various principals and counselors in various schools. Years later, she went back to NY Telephone and its offshoots, AT&T and Lucent Industries, where she worked until she retired in the mid 1990’s. In addition to her busy work life Jeanne had many hobbies; canning, jam and jelly making, gardening, sewing and refinishing furniture. She researched extensively the genealogy of the Pugsley side her of family. Jeanne was also a very avid and skilled knitter.
After her husband died in 1998, she relocated to St. George, to be close to family. A lifelong volunteer, she became very involved in many local organizations; Marshall Point Lighthouse, Rockland “Knit Wits”, Rockland Senior Group, and the Port Clyde Red Hat Ladies, among others. Jeanne was an active member of the Episcopal Church of St. John Baptist in Thomaston where she was member of the Alter Guild and was always involved in the Church Fair. Her jams and jellies were very popular at the annual event. Jeanne was an also lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Jeanne is predeceased by her husband, George; daughter Linda Madden; and a sister, Marie Carroll.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Scott (Stephen) of Tenants Harbor; son John Bulanchuk (Kathy) of Queens, New York; sisters Gloria Krebser of Hawthorne, New York, Dorothy Brenchak of Manchester, Connecticut; grandchildren, Julia Scott (Sydrit Ramja), Hannah Scott, Sean Madden (Krista), Daniel Madden (Raphaelle), Nicole Bulanchuk, Matthew Bulanchuk, Jake Bulanchuk; and a great-grandson, Enzo Scott-Ramja.
A celebration of Jeanne’s life will be held Friday, September 6, 2024, at 1 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. The Rev. Peter Jenks will officiate.
