Waldo County Technical Center CNA program halfway through training
Students enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at Waldo County Technical Center are now almost halfway through their clinical rotations at Harbor Hill Center in Belfast. These high school juniors and seniors are receiving hands-on training at the nursing home, where they practice skills such as taking vital signs, serving meals, and developing compassionate bedside relationships with the residents. Students will complete their rotations at Harbor Hill in March and then experience clinicals at Maine Health Waldo Hospital.
CNA instructor Fran Conlon describes this group of students as “enthusiastic and professional,” and is pleased with the positive energy the teens exhibit around residents. Upon completion of both clinical experiences and the CNA program, students will be able to sit for their CNA certifications in May.
The class has two adventures planned for the spring semester, when they will visit LifeFlight of Maine in Bangor and tour Mercy Hospital in Portland. These field trips are arranged and sponsored by the tech center’s Extended Learning Opportunities program.
