Violet Boggs Martin, obituary
On October 20, 2024, in God’s embrace and with the love of her dedicated family in her heart, Violet Boggs Martin concluded her journey on this earth.
Born February 28, 1935 to Leland and Margaret Boggs of Warren, Maine, Violet helped on her family’s farm until she graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1953. In school she played softball and was a member of the Future Homemakers of America. While working at Walt’s Diner, Violet met and married Maurice Martin of Searsport, Maine in 1954. Known affectionately as “Tiny” or “Vi,” she lived an abundant life with Marty as they raised six children together. Vi worked at The Biggest Little Clothing Store in Maine, Bonnar-Vawter, ran an upholstery business, worked at Gorden’s Market, and Moody’s Diner. She and Marty enjoyed winters in Mt. Dora, Florida and North Carolina. After Marty passed, Vi spent time in Wisconsin with a beloved granddaughter and her family, and lastly moved to Beech Hill in Rockport.
Marty and her family were the loves of Violet’s life. She devoted herself to raising a happy family, while enjoying gardening, fishing with Marty, crocheting and knitting, cooking, and feeding birds. Vi loved generously, had many friends, and several honorary children and grandchildren.
Violet was predeceased by her husband, Marty; adored sister Arlene; and precious daughter and granddaughter Lisa and Jennifer.
She is honorably survived by her children Dawn Rasmussen of Union, Debra Sheerer and husband Terry of Brunswick, Denise Jones and husband Michael of Rockport, Dr. Maurice “Bud” Martin and wife Sarah of Starks, and Angela Sabins and husband Glenn of Union.
Her grandchildren are Marice Rasmussen of Union, Beth (Sheerer) Waters of Bath, Travis Sheerer of Bath, Brooke (Jones) Hamar of Union, Martin Jones of Thomaston, Ray Martin of South Thomaston, Lex Martin of Hallowell, Coleman Martin of Starks, Jonas Sabins of Union, Jillian (Sabins) Gagnon of Union, and Christopher Bailey of Bath.
Her great-grandchildren are Ginger and Fred Waters, Aidan and Margaret Hamar, Jasper, Micah and Sapphire Oh, Jonas H. Sabins and McKenna Sabins, and Caleb Gagnon. Her surviving siblings are Leland Boggs II and wife Valerie of Warren, and Janet Bent of Bunnell, Florida.
Violet’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Mallory and Chelsea, whom Violet held dear to her heart, for their role in providing comfort and care to our mother and grandmother.
In honor of Violet, when you next find yourself enjoying one of her favorite activities, please remember her fondly.
