Thomaston Grammar students focus on empathy in January 2025
Students at TGS have been focusing on empathy during the month of January, 2025. Several students at Thomaston Grammar School were recognized for being empathetic at a school-wide assembly on February 4. The students receiving this award are known to be empathetic and sensitive to the feelings of others around them.
Empathy Award winners were: Lucas Daniello, Noa Silverstein, Hayden Gagnon, Wen Xin Chen, Emelia Miller, Josselyn Brown, Mason VanHorn, Kaleb Barnard, Paige Feltis, Dylan Latta, Kelly Trial, Juliette Johnson, Logan King, Anastasia Magnoli, Bryce Slape, Shawn King, Logan Atwood, and Essie Ross.
Throughout the month, students were awarded daily tickets for being empathetic. These tickets were put into a raffle and six lucky winners were drawn at the assembly. Winners received their choice of a prize, including gift cards donated by local businesses or a lunch or game with Mrs. Riley. The winners this month were: Jaxon Hopkins, Juniper Dailey, Logan McRae, Seth Beckett, Katie Davis, and Everlee Baughman.
London York was also presented with this month’s Principal’s Award. London is a marvelous member of the TGS community. It is apparent to all that she cares about her peers and the staff members at TGS. She works hard to be an excellent, contributing member of the school community. She is consistently respectful in her interactions with all members of the community.
The assembly concluded with a snowball fight. Not with real snowballs of course, but with fluffy pompoms! Two teams, assembled with the winners of the Empathy certificates, faced off against each other, racing to the middle of the gym floor where there were a pile of “snowballs,” and began throwing them at the opposing side. The teams had three minutes to toss as many as they could. The school counted down from five and when time was up, Team 2 was declared victorious as they had fewer snowballs left on their side. Everyone had a great time participating or cheering them on!
Next month, students at TGS will be focusing on perseverance.
Congratulations to all the students who received awards at TGS this month!
