Television report on Montgomery Dam was, 'was misinformation, or lack of full disclosure'
I am stunned at the Channel 6 report on the removal of the Montgomery Dam. There was so much misinformation recorded that I feel compelled to state my opinion.
1) Ellen Reynolds said the Montgomery Dam could cause flooding. The Inter-Fluve report clearly says the Montgomery Dam poses no threat of flooding in town. The photo used showing water in Harbor Park is flooding due to storm surge and not caused by the dam.
2) MRCAC had multiple presentations on why to remove the dams. There were no presentations on preservation of dams. This one-sided view is not so much information as it is propaganda.
3) Alison McKellar said elvers died at the bottom of the waterfall. Elvers die after propagating anyway.
4) Alison said it's ‘decades of discussion' when this issue has been discussed for five years and she started it.
5) Alison also said “We're spending a lot of money trying to solve the same problem,” which to her is repair of the dam, “over and over again,” but no information on how much maintaining fish ladders will cost over the upcoming years. In fact, the future cost to tax payers on ladder maintenance has never been mentioned or presented for the voters to consider.
Overall what I saw on Channel 6 was misinformation, or lack of full disclosure, and no consideration was shown of the reasons to save the Montgomery Dam.
Thank you for listening.
