ROCKLAND — The Apprenticeshop will offer a Youth Boatbuilding Workshop this spring over April vacation (M-F, April 18 — 22) from 9 a.m. — 3 p.m. for students sixth grade through high school. While building wooden Optimist dinghies, students will learn basic boatbuilding skills, woodworking techniques, and an intro to basic seamanship and sailing nomenclature. Participants will work in a group led by volunteers and experienced boatbuilders from The Apprenticeshop community.

The Community Sailing program uses these Optimist dinghies to teach seamanship and sailing to beginner and intermediate sailors from May through October. Workshop participants are encouraged to sail with the Community Sailing Program in 2016, enjoying a 5 percent discount on any summer class. Build it and sail it!
