Singin’ in the Rain to be screened as “Singer’s Pick” in Strand’s Conversation Series
ROCKLAND — The classic musical Singin’ in the Rain (1952) will be screened as a “Singer's Pick” film in the Strand Theatre’s Conversation Series on Saturday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m. As part of the event, the screening will be preceded by a conversation with local musician Addie Hamilton Heissler, a Grammy and Emmy nominated singer, songwriter, and performer.
Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor star in one of the greatest musicals ever filmed. Musician Don Lockwood (Kelly) rises to stardom during Hollywood’s silent-movie era, paired with the beautiful, jealous and simple-minded Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen). When Lockwood becomes attracted to young studio singer Kathy Selden (Reynolds), Lamont has her fired. But with the introduction of talking pictures, audiences laugh when they hear Lockwood speak for the first time, and the studio uses Selden to dub her voice. Set during the advent of “talkies,” this film’s classic song-and-dance numbers celebrate the beginning of movie musicals.
This film will be shown in 4K.
Tickets are $10/General Admission, $8/Seniors and Under 12, $7/Strand Members, and will be available at the box office 30 minutes prior to show time. Beer and wine are available at the theater’s concessions.
