Sarah J. “Sally” Jarossi, obituary
THOMASTON — Sarah J. “Sally” Jarossi, 90, of Thomaston, passed away peacefully with her husband of sixty years by her side on November 16 at her home after a six-year battle with Alzheimer’s.
Sally was born September 30, 1934, in Calais, Maine to Frederick Hollingdale and Charlotte Lello Hollingdale. She grew up in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School in the class of 1952. She later attended Fisher College in Boston.
Sally worked as the insurance coordinator for the town of Tewksbury, Massachusetts for many years. Sally was a trendsetter and was significantly ahead of her time as a woman. She was a fiercely determined person who would do whatever it took to reach her goals. She was feisty, very intelligent, caring, selfless, devoted and loved all of her family above everything else.
Sally enjoyed reading, listening to good music, spending time with her children, grandchildren and husband. She shot her first moose, a 770-pound bull, in 2012 at the age of 78. She was a member of the Knox County Republican Party.
She was predeceased by her parents; and two sisters, Mary Proulx and Frances Wadliegh.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Jarossi of Thomaston; son, John Jarossi and his wife Linda of Ypsilanti, Michigan; daughter, Linda Lafortune of Inman, South Carolina; grandson, Rob Lafortune of Inman, South Carolina; granddaughters, Kate Shanks and her husband Jim of Ithaca, New York, Molly Green of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Tara Lafortune, Rock Hill, South Carolina; great grandson, Sam Shanks of Ithaca, New York; and various nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Sally’s life will be held November 22, at 1 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home, 78 Main Street, Thomaston. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery in Thomaston.
