Sandra Eutsler Barbour, obituary
FRIENDSHIP — Sandra Eutsler Barbour, 88, of Friendship, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, to be with the Lord following a period of steady decline in health.
Sandra was born on November 14, 1936, in Annapolis, Maryland to Ada (Perry) and Warner Eutsler, Sr. She married Charles Alvan “Al” Barbour on December 23, 1956, and together welcomed two children, Mark and Lauren. They enjoyed a long, loving marriage of 66 years, later settling in a Victorian farmhouse near the sea in Friendship, Maine.
Sandra was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She held a variety of fulfilling employments during her lifetime, including a secretary at the Pentagon, a school aid for children with special needs, and an administrative assistant in the dental offices of Dr. Shesler, Dr. Kingsley, and Dr. Beaudoin.
Sandra, known affectionately as “Ammi” to many, provided many loving memories for family and friends. She was a beautiful singer and shared her musical talent with her church congregation. Though her memory began to fade in her later years, she could always remember the words to her favorite songs and instilled a love for the “Sound of Music” in her granddaughters. She was known for brewing the best coffee and baking cinnamon rolls and was thrilled when friends dropped by for conversation over coffee and sweets. Ammi shared many special holiday traditions with her grandchildren, including annual gatherings to decorate Christmas cookies (with friendly competition between cousins to claim their favorite vintage handmade aprons!), Easter egg hunts, and backyard lobster bakes in the summer. Sandra’s faith in God was ever present in her life. She and Al kept a list of people they prayed for each morning, and she proudly shared the message of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ with others. Sandra traveled on several international missionary trips and was fortunate to be able to share the experience of spreading the Gospel with some of her granddaughters.
Sandra was predeceased by her husband, Al, on August 10, 2023. She was the youngest of five siblings, and was predeceased by her brothers, Warner, Jr., Raymond, and Gerald, and her sister, Florence. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Eutsler (Raymond) of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
She is survived by her children, Kevin Mark Barbour of Friendship, former daughter-in-law Sherri Barbour of Waldoboro, and Lauren Barbour Watts (Todd) of Tenants Harbor; and six granddaughters: Sarah Barbour Orlandello (Joseph), Megan Watts Berube (Bryan), Molly Barbour Boulette (Nathan), Aley Watts (Page Nichols), Anne Barbour Frankenhauser (Noah), and Taylor Watts Hall (Taylor).
Ammi adored all of her great-grandchildren and took immense joy in singing favorite songs and lullabies to them as babies. They include Ezra, Amos, and Audrey Orlandello; Nora, Thomas, and Louisa Berube; Elia, Lucy, Mia, and Hazel Boulette; Griffin Watts; Khyver and Bentley Denman; and Clarke Hall.
She was especially looking forward to the births of two more great-grandchildren to Aley and Anne in February 2025.
Ammi held a special love for her nieces and nephews: Eric, Patrick, Kerry, Tani, Todd, Jay, Anita, Bob, Gail, and Nancy; and great nieces and nephews: Logan, Madysen, Hayden, Rhiannon, Adam, Isaac, and Jessica.
Sandra’s children would like to extend a special thank you to her dear friend and neighbor, Kathy Foster, for always being a loving support for their mother, especially when they couldn’t be present in person, and to Richard Robishaw for his friendship and support over the years.
A private burial will be held at the family’s convenience.
Donations in memory of Sandra can be made to the Advent Christian Church of Friendship, Maine.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hall’s of Waldoboro. To share a condolence or story with the Barbour family, please visit Sandra’s Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com
