This is not leadership
Is Maine so liberal that there isn't a scintilla of disapprobation regarding Janet Mills' recent activity as our Governor? In addition to her very public support for including males in female sporting events, she has proposed a budget for 2026-2027 at a staggering $11.63 billion — an 11% increase over the previous budget.
Even with her proposed 5.3% digital streaming tax on subscriptions like Netflix, a 6% tax on ambulance providers and a new 70 cent fee on every Maine prescription, the state will now incur a $450 million "structural deficit" — code for expenditures exceed revenue.
To top it off, the state's largest part of the budget, MaineCare, now faces a $118 million shortfall — even after much of the cost is covered by federal dollars. A big part of this increase is attributed to Mills expanding MaineCare to cover childless, able-bodied adults.
It isn't enough to take comfort in knowing that the Governor will soon reach her term limit. Citizens, and our elected officials who represent us, must insist on legislative action that will correct the Governor's mishandling of Maine's political well-being.
