Mountainfilm event in Portland to benefit Hurricane Island Outward Bound scholarships
PORTLAND — On Sunday, March 2, Hurricane Island Outward Bound School (HIOBS), a Camden-based nonprofit focused on empowering youth, veterans, and adults through outdoor education, will host Mountainfilm on Tour, at Aura, 121 Center Street, in Portland, starting at 1 p.m. Proceeds will help raise funds for HIOBS’s scholarships and programming.
The event will feature an afternoon of short documentary films and inspiring stories focused on adventure, resilience, and the experiences of those who did not give up or let their challenges define them. Special guest and speaker will be Tania Aebi, renowned sailor and solo adventurer, who will share her incredible journey and insights. Aebi, author of the bestselling book Maiden Voyage, completed a solo circumnavigation of the globe in 1987, at the young age of 21, after having spent two and a half years and 27,000 miles sailing around the world alone on a 26-foot sloop.
The featured films for the afternoon were curated from the 2024 Mountainfilm festival and celebrate the indomitable human spirit and the transformative power of storytelling. Founded in 1979, Mountainfilm is an annual documentary film festival based in Telluride, Colorado, that showcases stories of adventure, culture, environment, and resilience.
Tickets for the event are $25 per person. Children ages 18 and under, as well as students with I.D., are free. Every ticket purchased will help fund outdoor expeditions that build leadership, resilience, and confidence.
Sponsors include Spinnaker Real Estate Partners LLC and the Clay and Margaret Fowler Family.
