Medomak Valley High School Varsity Girls Soccer Team defeats Gardiner in quarter finals game
There was a lot of back and forth action at the start of the game Oct. 29 between Medomak Valley and Gardiner high school girls varsity soccer teams, and some hard play by both ends, reported Assistant Varsity MVHS Girls Soccer Coach Andrea Williamson.
Medomak was able to score first. Near the 20-minute mark in the first half of the game, Kytana Williamson took the Gardiner corner kick to the chest, cleared the ball and served the ball up on a leading pass to Scarlett Flint.
The first half came to a close 1 to 0, MVHS.
The second half started with action in the scoring end for Medomak. With a little less than 17 minutes remaining in the match, Rachel Richards passed the ball up in the air, while Grace Townsend ran for the ball.
The Gardiner defense kicked it out but Scarlett Flint found the ball, took a shot, sending it into the back of the net, over the goalie's head and handing Medomak a 2 to 0 lead.
Approximately seven minutes later, Haley Blake hustled back for a ball on defense and got taken down with a big push, direct kick for Medomak.
Haylee Chandler took the direct ball. It skimmed off a Gardiner defensive player. Summer Staples ran the ball down in the far left corner of the field, saving it from going out. She cut it back and took a hard shot at the goal and it hit the goalie's hands. But it was too much to stop and into the net the ball went, giving Medomak a 3 to 0 lead, and win.
"Great team play was had by all," said Williamson. "Medomak's defense played as a unit. Medomak's midfield played end to end and never gave up, and Medomak's front line put the pressure on and together they won the game."
