Shimmering ice sculptures pop up on Belfast sidewalks as Ice Festival gets underway
BELFAST — The fifth annual Belfast Ice Festival is underway, with glistening ice sculptures popping up all over the downtown sidewalks. Pieces are carved by chainsaw artists, who then leave their pieces to be admired by the many passersby who frequent the festival.
There will be live demonstrations by artists carving their pieces Feb. 22, with 25 total ice sculptures expected to appear over the course of the weekend.
Several local businesses will reportedly offer food and drink specials, in addition to, "many outdoor bars with warming stations," according to the media release about the event, which is put on by Our Town Belfast.
A map of sculpture locations is available to print or view on the Our Town Belfast website.
