Henry Robert ‘Bob’ Plausse, obituary
LINCOLNVILLE — Henry Robert ‘Bob’ Plausse, 89, went home to be with his Lord, and his beloved wife Janet, on October 31, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Brockton, Massachusetts on June 14, 1935, Bob was the son of the late Exore and Evelyn Magee Plausse. Upon graduation from Brockton High School, Bob joined the United States Navy for 2 years during the end of the Korean War conflict. Post-service he attended and earned degrees from Massasoit Community College and Bridgewater State University and Bob earned a certificate from the Wharton Business School later in life.
Bob began his career as a nurse at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts. There he met fellow nurse Janet Gustafson Spencer at the hospital lunch cart, as the story goes. Janet and Bob married in 1964 and were blessed with 59 years of marriage prior to Janet’s passing in January 2024. The couple made their home and raised a family in Pembroke, Massachusetts and Bob advanced into Hospital Administration at South Shore Hospital.
Bob was incredibly active in the Pembroke community during his 29 years of residency. He coached multiple basketball and Little League baseball teams for his children and diligently served as a town selectman for over 13 years. Additionally, he was a proud member of Kiwanis and the Free Masons. Bob spoke frequently and fondly of his Pembroke memories and cherished and maintained countless lifelong friendships within the Pembroke community.
After jointly retiring in 1993, Janet and Bob moved to Lincolnville, Maine, a short drive down Route 1 from Camden Hills State Park where they had camped with family and friends every summer since the mid 1970s. Never one to sit still, Bob integrated himself quickly into his Maine Coast community; serving as a Lincolnville town Selectman for 2 terms, President of the Lincolnville Improvement Association, and Vice-President of the Maplewood Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest alongside his wife. Bob was also an active member of the Bayshore Baptist Church. He and Janet worshiped at Bayshore for many years. Janet played the piano and Bob served as a Deacon, among various other roles in the church community.
Bob was happiest at his home in Lincolnville and on the rocky shores of Ducktrap Harbor. He was an avid reader, enjoyed spending time working in his yard, loved playing cards, and adored his pet Springer Spaniels and numerous cats. His family meant the world to him and he always made Maine a special place for them to come and visit. He was a larger-than-life personality and will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Janet Plausse, in January of this year; his daughter, Lisa Spencer; and son James Plausse.
He is survived by his sons Scott Plausse and his wife Lynn of Dunstable, Massachusetts and Bradford ‘Brad’ Plausse of Bridgewater, Massachusetts; his siblings, Dee Alton of Syracuse, New York, John Plasse and his wife Rose of Nashville, Tennessee, and Eileen Callahan of Jacksonville, Florida; six grandchildren, Jessica Sullivan and her husband Tyler of Townsend, Massachusetts, Matthew Plausse and his companion Kelsey Whelihan of Pepperell, Massachusetts, Christopher Plausse and his wife Emily stationed with the Air Force in Oklahoma, Jenna Plausse of South Boston, Massachusetts, Nicholas Plausse of South Boston, Massachusetts, and Kyle Plausse of Dunstable, Massachusetts; two great grandchildren, Haiden and Cameron Plausse; and son-in-law Joel Boniface of Lille, France; as well as four sons, Bobby, Billy, Mark and David Plausse.
Bob’s family would like to extend a heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to his church family as well as his friends and neighbors in the Lincolnville Community whose endless support has been deeply appreciated.
Intended to align with the 1-year anniversary of Janet’s funeral services, an hour of visitation will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon, at Bayshore Baptist Church, Route 1, Lincolnville, Maine, immediately followed by a service at 12 Noon.
