Helena M. ‘Lena’ Randall, obituary
CUSHING – Helena M. ‘Lena’ Randall, 93, passed peacefully, Friday, November 8, 2024 following a period of declining health.
Born in Rockland, July 27, 1931, she was the daughter of Freeland and Lillie Overlock Huntley. Educated locally, Lena was a 1949 graduate of Rockland High School. Her family remembered she loved to tell them about working in the superintendent’s office during her senior year, so she didn’t have to go to class with a certain teacher.
Lena began her career as a bookkeeper following high school working at Maritime Oil Company. Here she met the love of her life, Richard M. Randall. The two were married September 9, 1950 and made their home in Rockland their entire married life.
She continued working as a bookkeeper holding positions for several local companies including Maine’s State Employment Office and Knox Hospital. For over 19 years she worked with Allied Motor Parts and finished her career with the Maine State Prison.
Lena was always an active and on the go person. She loved going to Bingo and traveling, especially with her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and George. For many years she was a member of the Rockland Lodge of Elks Emblem Club and was also a very proud member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, holding several offices over the years. She was a wonderful organizer and volunteer, and even when she couldn’t do something herself, she found a way to help or convince someone to do it with her. Her family said she knew how to get things done.
Later in life, Lena enjoyed knitting and crocheting and reading, especially James Paterson novels. Being with her family was her number one priority, and she loved family get togethers. Her spunky personality will be missed by all who loved her.
Predeceased by her parents, Freeland Huntley, Lilly Overlock Wooster, and her step-father Charles Wooster; her husband, Richard M. Randall; two brothers, Charles Huntley, Charles Wooster; a brother-in-law, George Keating; and a grandson, Adrian Randall; Lena is survived by her son, Richard Randall and his wife Tracey of Cushing; her sister, Nancy Keating of Rockland; a grandson, Darren Randall and his wife Niki of Cushing; her two great-grandchildren, Dasia Hustus and Adrian Randall of Cushing; as well as two nephews and a niece, Shawn Keating, Michael Keating and Cheryl Murray.
Family and friends are invited to visit Monday, November 18, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland where a celebration of life will be held immediately following at 12 noon.
