ROCKLAND - New Hope for Women kicked off its Pop Up Shop at The Yellow Barn, 20 Winter Street on Thursday evening August 22. Filled with amazing buys of clothes, handbags, and accessories, the Pop Up will support New Hope’s ongoing mission to end domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.
2018’s Pop Up raised more than $15,000 for the organization. This year before the sale even began the organization was at $20,000 raised.
New Hope’s Susan Schor explained the event is in its eighth year. Shore said this year’s event saw donations of new clothes from merchants from Belfast to Wiscasset.
Thursday’s sale was for VIPs and a ticket needed to be purchased to shop. The sale will run Friday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to the public.
Saturday’s sale will feature 50-percent off. And a table full of raffle item winners will be announced on Saturday as well.
Rebekah Paredes is the new executive director for New Hope for women said one in four women are victims of domestic violence.
“New Hope for women is in its 38th year of being in this community,” she said. “We serve four counties and our mission is to offer support to all of those counties and towns affected by domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. In 2018 we served 1,500 clients.”
Paredes has been the executive director since February of 2019.
“We need community support and recognition,” she said. “Domestic violence can reach all levels of individuals, both male and female. It’s important that people know that they can get help from a supportive organization. Anyone can get help at any time.”
