Five Town CSD bond vote, 'feels like we are being blindsided'
I've just returned from the board meeting held tonight at Rose Hall Board Room in Camden to speak about the 7.3 million bond referendum that is to appear before all voters on January 14 from Camden, Hope, Appleton, Camden, Lincolnville and Rockport.
In short, the bond referendum bundles four separate projects that relate to Camden Hills Regional High School.
It was very clear to me that all the maintenance projects need to happen and that desperately needed maintenance costs need to be upped/added to future annual budgets.
The hot button during the discussion, however, was what to do with the Don Palmer Field at the high school. Changing the field to turf is a big deal at $2.7 million.
All these projects should be unbundled so that voters can vote on the various projects separately and not in January when many voters are away and unaware of this bond/referendum.
Have you walked up Chestnut Street in the winter? Almost no one is home. Many people are not here to vote. This vote feels like we are being blindsided and somehow sneaky.
One of the speakers said 'this is the best kept secret in town.' I only learned about this issue recently.
Sincerely with hope of a good outcome,
