Dwight ‘Fred’ Blake, obituary
FRIENDSHIP — Dwight Frederick 'Fred' Blake, 89, of Friendship, died December 11, 2024, at the Homestead at Owls Head, Maine, after a brief illness.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Fred graduated from Medford High School in Medford, Massachusetts, in 1953. Fred served with the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. After training at Fort Dix, Fred was sent to Germany where he worked in tank recovery. After returning home, he worked in various industries, including metal shaping, selling ice machines, and even as a dance instructor with Arthur Murray School of Dance. He found his niche in real estate as a broker and as an appraiser.
He married his wife, Diane, in 1989 and they lived in Chester, New Hampshire until 2009 when they both retired to the house they built in Friendship, Maine.
Fred was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Fred was predeceased by his daughter Linda Gregor, and son, Christopher.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Ingalls-Blake of Friendship, Maine; his daughter Julie of Manchester, New Hampshire; his son-in-law, Steven Gregor and grandson, Gavin Gregor of Hooksett, New Hampshire; granddaughters, Nicole Gregor and Lauryn Blake of Manchester, New Hampshire; sisters Joyce of Knoxville, Tennessee and Leslie of Seattle, Washington; and a brother, Bruce of Carlsbad, California.
The family has chosen to honor Fred’s life privately at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Guiding Eyes for the Blind, or Pope Memorial Humane Society in Thomaston, Maine.
