LINCOLNVILLE BEACH— Local resident Susie Barnes is the new owner of Dot's Café and Market in Lincolnville Beach. The chef-turned-massage-therapist said in a news release that she is excited to get back in the kitchen and to join the Lincolnville community.

Barnes said she intends to make Dot's even more of a go-to place for locals and visitors, adding more prepared foods, grab 'n go dinners, house baked goods, artisan sundries and offering small event catering. She also will increase gluten-free and vegetarian options, and intends on sourcing ingredients from local farms.

Raised in Camden, Barnes got an early start in hospitality as a teenager in the galley of her family's windjammer, the Schooner Stephen Taber.

"That's where I learned to create delicious, soul nourishing dishes that make people smile," she said, in the release. "It's my first love!"

She was formally trained at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. She went on to start the Waterworks Restaurant in Rockland, where she was chef/owner for nine years. In 2003, she sold that business to become a licensed massage therapist.

Marika Kuzma, former longtime owner of Aurora Provisions in Portland has collaborated frequently with Barnes over the years.

"Susie has the talent, the energy, and above all, good taste and instincts as a chef. I can't think of anyone better, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what she does with Dot's," Kuzma said.

Dot’s will offer coffee, prepared foods, sweet treats, cheeses, great gift items, craft beers and carefully selected wines.
