David Andrew Ellis, obituary
THOMASTON — Loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather David Andrew Ellis, 92, of Thomaston, Maine, was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. David is now reunited in heaven with the love of his life, Connie Marie (Willis) Ellis, who predeceased him in October 2021.
David was born on June 18, 1932, in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, to Ellsworth and Ruth (Eddy) Ellis. He played sports and the drums before graduating from Brockton High School. It was there he first met fellow classmate Connie, who he married on July 17, 1954.
David proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Nome, Alaska, as a Morse code specialist. After his service, David and Connie built a life on the South Shore of Massachusetts, where they raised four sons. In those days, David, a jack of all trades, had a diverse work portfolio, which included working in a greenhouse, a donut shop and on a mink farm.
In 1972, David and Connie moved their family to Sunapee, New Hampshire, to buy Shepherds Market, a grocery store they ran for several years. After selling the store, David worked as a self-employed electrician and then in electrical maintenance. He was a faithful Christian and served as a leader and deacon at several churches, including Lake Sunapee Baptist Church. David led Bible studies and mentored others in their spiritual journey.
David and Connie realized a dream of moving from New Hampshire to Maine’s MidCoast in 1998 to enjoy their retirement. The couple often vacationed on Monhegan Island and wanted a simpler life by the shore. During retirement, David stumbled across his favorite job of all time: working aboard the Monhegan Ferry, which he found to be a thrilling experience. David and Connie were parishioners at Solid Rock Church of Thomaston. He was an adoring “cat dad” and provided a home to several kitties throughout the years, especially his beloved Nosy, who already misses his scratches and rubs. He loved plants, carnations, birdwatching, reading, music and sports. An avid Boston Celtics and New England sports fan, he even coached a church basketball league for many years.
David was witty and a delightful conversationalist. He was immensely proud of his grandkids and great grandchildren and was the source behind all the latest family news. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him, including family, his Solid Rock Church family and close friends Charlie and James Shaw, who cared for him until the end.
David is survived by his three sons Christopher (Donna) Ellis, David Ellis, Stephen (Doris) Ellis; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents, three older brothers and son Gregory Ellis.
Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, February 21, 2025 from 1 to 2 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of David can be made to Solid Rock Church, 65 Gleason Street, Thomaston, ME 04861.
