Camden residents invited to participate: Free Street Tree Program
In September, Camden residents and volunteers partnered with the Camden Conservation Commission and Public Works to plant trees throughout the town as part of the Street Tree Program. The effort focuses on enhancing public spaces.
Camden earned the Tree City USA designation, which recognizes the town’s dedication to urban forestry. This status is granted to communities that meet four essential criteria: a dedicated tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance.
Since launching the Street Tree Program two years ago, Camden has planted over 130 shade trees in key public locations, with approximately 40 new trees added in 2024.
As 2025 planning begins, tree planting will continue to be a priority. The Conservation Commission wants to hear from residents interested in this program. To request a free shade tree or learn more, contact Kendall Espinosa at the Camden Public Works Facility at 207-236-7954 or via email at kespinosa@camdenmaine.gov.
The Commission extended thanks to the residents who participated in the 2024 program.
"Your involvement made a significant impact, and we are grateful for your support in helping to bring these trees to Camden’s streets," the Commission wrote, in a Jan. 27 news release.
