Belfast Rotary Club’s 24th Annual Golf Tournament generates more than $22,000

NORTHPORT — The Belfast Rotary Club’s 24th Annual Golf Tournament, held June 3 at the Northport Golf Club, was a success despite rainy, windy weather, according to Belfast Rotary Club, in a news release. The Tournament, which concludes the Belfast Rotary Club’s largest charitable fundraiser, was supported by more than 40 sponsoring businesses, organizations and individuals, and 17 golf teams. The fundraiser generated over $22,000 for the Rotary Club’s charitable projects. Ed Varney of First National Bank, coordinated the fundraiser and Paul Doody of Camden National Bank directed the golf tournament.
“Despite the weather, the community’s support for Belfast Rotary was incredible and a good time was had by everyone who participated,” said tournament director Paul Doody. “We would like to thank all of our sponsors, teams, and the Rotarians who volunteered to make this a wonderful day for a good cause.” The tournament’s top foursome was the team from Camden National Bank, followed by a tie between the teams from Dead River Company and Tozier’s Family Market.
Other awards distributed at the post-tournament celebration also included those to Gary Seavey (first place), Mark Politte (second place) and Scott Lally (third place) for the putting contest, to Tom Jurewitz and McKinley Schroeder for “closest to the line,” to Kris Welt and Kelsey Richards for longest drives, and to Carl Collins, Alex Carroll, Steve Stanford and Mark Politte for “closest to the pin on par 3 holes.”
The next major Rotary Club event is Belfast Harbor Fest, which takes place on the Belfast waterfront August 18, 19, and 20. Harbor Fest begins with a Friday night “Evening By the Bay” charitable auction to benefit a local charitable organization. It continues all day Saturday with National Boatbuilding Challenge prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250, a blueberry pancake breakfast, 5K “Bug Run” road race, craft and exhibitor tents, music, food, children’s activities and the Come Boating! rowing regatta. It will conclude with Sunday morning’s just-for-fun Cardboard Boat Race and the Habitat for Humanity’s lobster bake gala. Harbor Fest sponsorship opportunities are still available.
