Awesome weather for taking in Camden's Independence Day fireworks

CAMDEN — As the big hand rolled over "3" and the little hand rested on "9," the first fireworks shot up and over Camden Harbor, starting a show of light and explosions that for many capped another year celebrating Independence Day over Penobscot Bay.
This year's Fourth of July in the Midcoast was filled with music, parades and barbecues. It was a time for locals and visitors alike to celebrate the nation's adoption of the Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776.
Camden's parks, waterfront landings, restaurants decks and private ocean view yards were awash with revelers of all ages, eager to see colorful and bright bombs bursting in air They were not disappointed, although many noted the absence of a traditional "grand finale" in this year's fireworks display. Instead, a mini-grand finale occurred mid-way through the show, but the overall display did not disappoint the assembled masses.
The next official fireworks show over Camden Harbor is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 30, at 9 p.m. That Friday is the first of the three-day Camden Windjammer Festival that includes a parade of sail, schooner talent show, live music, pancake breakfast, fire department water rescue demo, lobster crate race, chowder challenge, RC boat race, sea dog show, build-a-boat race, schooner open house and pirate "attack."
