Ava Jackson, obituary
LINCOLNVILLE — Ava Jackson, 93 of Lincolnville, Maine, passed away on February 5, 2025 at the Sussman House, Rockport, Maine.
Ava Agnes Athearn was born October 16, 1931 on Moody Mountain in Searsmont, Maine, the daughter of Martin Athearn and Mabel Wentworth Athearn Choate.
She grew up on "The Farm" on Townhouse Road in Lincolnville. She loved her days there, although a bit lonely as her siblings were older. Her blind grandfather lived with them and became her favorite playmate. She had many stories of Dada with his horses and her mama always knew to look around the pig pen when she was missing. She attended schools in Linconville and Camden.
She married Irving Seekins on her birthday in 1947. She was a stay at home mama, taking care of the home papering, painting and did a lot of sewing and crocheting. She loved to dance, especially The Lady of the Lake. Birthdays were special and she made the cakes and often hosted the family parties, February was her busy month with 3 in the same week. She learned to drive at age 33 which was a blessing, as she was a widow at 37. She moved from Linconville to her mother's in Camden. She met Ray Jackson and they were married in 1969 and lived in Lincolnville. He was an avid gardener, so she spent many hours harvesting and processing the fresh vegetables. They loved to fish in summer and winter. They also got out on the ocean and tented for a week on an island. She was again widowed in 1993. Staying put this time, a fellow Lincolnville Classmate came calling and invited her to breakfast at 9:00. A knock on the door that Sunday morning at 8:00 found Alan Thomas a bit miffed she wasn't ready until he realized he didn't "fall back" his clock and was an hour early... they had a great life traveling, riding the roads and being together until his passing in January. He said he never saw anyone who could take nothing and make a meal out of it. She was a good cook but as she said "Lt probably isn't fit to eat"
In 1968, she started working at School House Togs at the Hoboken building in Rockport, then the Tannery Lane building in Camden until it closed it's doors at the "tin cracker box", as she called it, now Hamilton Marine in Rockland.
She loved her family and those around her. She was loved by all who met her, including the medical workers who took care of her through the years and she loved them all.
Besides her parents, two husbands and companion, she was predeceased by her siblings, brother, Harold Athearn, and sisters, Florence Athearn and Marion Jones; son-in-law, Paul Tibbetts; and granddaughter Tracey Marshall Feener.
She is survived by daughters Pam Seekins Tibbetts and Holly Louine Seekins Marshall; grandson Mark Tibbetts (Tonia) and granddaughter Lori Tibbetts Pezanowski; great grandchildren Ashley Pezanowski, Owen Feener (Allie), Adam Feener, Sam Feener and Mallory Tibbetts; great great grandchildren Isla, Ivan and Avie Lou Feener, along with many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 1 - 3 p.m., at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, ME.
