Ann Marie (Polk) Brown, obituary
CAMDEN — Ann Marie (Polk) Brown, 55, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
Born in Belfast on June 14, 1969, she was the youngest daughter of William and Elmore Polk. She graduated from Georges Valley High School and later pursued an associate degree in social services at the University of Maine at Augusta.
After working with children in various capacities for many years, she founded F&A’s Market in Thomaston, a restaurant and general store. With Ann at the helm, F&A’s Market became a thriving business and a beloved daily meeting place for many locals. Many folks would arrive before the sun came up each day, eagerly waiting for Ann to serve them their eggs and coffee with a side of good-natured verbal abuse and irreverent humor.
Forever a child at heart herself, she loved all children and raised her step-daughter Tamika as her own. She was also “Auntie” to her three nieces, Kimberly, Kaitlyn, and Kyla. She took her role as “the fun aunt” very seriously, and was always happy to bend the rules, teach off-color jokes, provide plenty of candy and snacks, rough-house, and embark on adventures that were certainly not always Mom-approved. When her niece had kids, she announced that she was too young to be called “great aunt” and insisted that she instead be called “Auntie the Great”, a title that suited her more than she probably ever realized.
Her big personality could never adequately be described in these small paragraphs. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh, sass, sense of humor, and, most of all, the loyalty, generosity, and love she had for the people who were most important to her. She is loved dearly, will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
She is predeceased by her parents, William and Elmore Polk, and several other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She is survived by her sister Pam Prior and husband Dwayne of Cushing; her step-daughter, Tamika Brown and partner Ben of Rockland; her nieces, Kimberly Prior and her husband Scott of Boxford, Massachusetts, Kaitlyn Prior and her husband Colin of South Paris, Kyla Prior and her husband Joe of Naples; great-nieces, Zoe and Saylor; great-nephews, Soren and Asa; her brother, Jimmy Hall of Camden; her sister Judith Armstrong of Camden; and many other friends, relatives, and community members whose lives she so greatly impacted.
Her family will celebrate her life privately.
