Alena Maude Pennington, obituary
APPLETON — Alena Maude Pennington, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, December 3, 2024, peacefully and wrapped in the love of her family.
Born in Appleton, she was the eighth of nine children of Aubrey and Claribel Fuller.
Alena dedicated her life to the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age and lived her life loving her Savior and everyone she came in contact with. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, Aunt, and Friend, and went by several names: Lena, Mom, Grammie, Gram, Grammie Lena, Mother, Mama P., and Aunt Lena.
She worked as a Monitor and Teacher at South Hope Christian School and South Liberty Baptist Academy. She worked at Van Baalens and as a CNA at Kno-Wal-Lin. Alena was a caregiver at heart and loved to serve, give, and help anyone in need. Her most precious possession was her Bible which contained many notes and a long prayer list. She prayed for each member of her family by name on a daily basis. She always loved being with family and brought joy to everyone.
Other than her beloved husband of 50 years, Douglass Pennington Sr., Alena was predeceased by her parents; six siblings: Eleanor, Walter, Clara, Maurice, Ernestine, and James; and her mother-in-law, Chrystal Pennington.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret Kennedy of Lincolnville; a brother, Robert Fuller of New York; sisters-in-law who she loved as sisters, Elizabeth Pennington Butler of Union and Mary Jo Pennington Chandler of Virginia; her children, Kristi Martz (Hayden) of Union, Douglass Pennington Jr. (Rebecca) of Appleton, and Dawn Grant (Rev. Michael) of New Port Richey, Florida; her grandchildren, Hayden Martz Jr. (Sandra), Tyler Martz (Raquel), Hannah McGie (Colin), Jocelynn Perry (Drew), Sarah Pennington, Douglass Pennington III (Ashley), Libby Blake (Jared), Cody Pennington (Emily), Aubrey Pennington (Carrie), Ezra Smith (Samantha), Derek Smith (Addison), and Sydney Pennington; 27 great grandchildren with the youngest being only weeks old and named for her mother, “Claribel”; as well as many nieces and nephews, all dearly loved by Aunt Lena.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11 a.m., at South Hope Community Church, with Pastor Colin McGie officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Appleton Baptist Church Building Fund. P.O. Box 915, Appleton, Maine 04862.
