12th annual Blueberry Cove half marathon takes coastal route

A rainy forecast turned into sunny skies August 27 for the 12th annual Blueberry Cove half marathon, which helps needy kids attend camp in Tenants Harbor and at Tanglewood Camp in Lincolnville.
The race raised about $21,000, and included a pre-race fish chowder dinner with blueberry pie, and a post-race brunch buffet of pancakes, bacon, fruit salad, eggs and more.
The brunch is open to all, including volunteers who make it all happen. The race course winds from Blueberry Cove in Tenants Harbor to Turkey Cove, Port Clyde, Marshall Point, Drift Inn Beach and back to the camp.
Race director Steve Cartwright said what he likes best is seeing runners and their families having a good time together before, during and after the race. "It's a non-commercial, communal experience," he said. "And fun."
