Sewing week at Searsport Shores’ Camp and Create!
SEARSPORT — The week of July 20 -26 will have you in stitches at the Searsport Shores Ocean Campground with Camp and Create! Artist in Residence Ellen Mason.
Mason will sew a piece of clothing each day. Come see what goes into making clothing, and join in the fun. Learn simple hand stitching, construction, and how to mend your own clothing. Let's celebrate the humble stitch. All ages welcome.
Mason lives with her family in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. She has always been curious about textiles and would like to explore every process in the world before she kicks the bucket. So far, she has endeavored knitting, machine knitting, sewing, weaving, silk-screen and dyeing.
She earned a degree in studio art, emphasis on weaving, and has worked as a trim designer, illustrator, children’s clothing designer, dyer, and knitting pattern designer. Some of Mason’s knitwear designs may be found on Ravelry. http://www.ravelry.com/designers/ellen-mason.
On Groundhog Day, 2014 she launched a personal project called A Stitcher's Wardrobe: A well rounded handmade wardrobe of basics and not-so-basics. On Groundhog Day, 2015, she will poke her head up and look around: If she casts a shadow there will be another six weeks of the project.
