MidCoast Interact Club recognized by Rotary District
CAMDEN — The Midcoast Interact Club raised and donated $4,300 to various local and global organizations is during the 2013/2014 year, and was recognized at the Rotary District 7790 annual conference with the Presidential Citation for actively working to Engage Rotary, Change Lives.
Topping the list of activities and donations is the Third Annual 5-Club End Polio Now Walk with the local Rotary clubs, raising $1,300 to donate to the Rotary International End Polio Now campaign. When Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines, the Interact club jumped into action by manning a Shelter Box display in front of French & Brawn on two Saturday’s raising over $500 to add to funds that were raised the previous year for a total of $1,000 to donate a Shelter Box for the disaster struck area. This was the third Shelter Box the club has donated since its inception.
The project they are most proud of this year is presenting a $1,000 check to the Hospitality House for the purchase of a washer and dryer with any remaining funds to be allocated to their child care center. Other donations include $500 to Safe Passage, $100 in toys to the Camden Fire Department’s Toys for Tots drive and the purchase of a brick benefitting the Bleacher Project at CHRHS in honor of the Interact graduating class of 2014.
Community service activities include helping with trail maintenance for Coastal Mountains Land Trust along with the West Bay Rotary club, participating in the Christmas by the Sea Parade, providing a holiday food basket and Christmas tree to a local family as part of the Camden Rotary Annual Food Basket Project and volunteering at the Emergency Service Challenge organized by the Camden Fire Department.
The MidCoast Interact Club is a community based club and is cosponsored by West Bay Rotary and Camden Rotary.
The MidCoast Interact Club meets during the school year every Wednesday at 2:20 pm, in the conference room at Camden Hills Regional High School.
