Fundraising campaign for 90-year-old Spruce Head building
SPRUCE HEAD — The Spruce Head Community Hall and Historical Association, which earned its nonprofit status this year, has launched a fundraising campaign to reinforce the foundation of the historic Community Hall, built in 1924 and used for years as a dance hall and gathering place.
Still in active use for potluck suppers, meetings, community programs, and special events, the Hall also needs a ramp to make the building fully accessible.
According to Hall Association Treasurer Eileen Spectre, the fundraising campaign, begun in October, has already generated just less than $8,000 from more than 60 donors. Documenting their generosity is a large, bright thermometer posted on the Hall door. The fundraising goal, determined by the Building Committee after consulting with experts, is $25,000.
The Hall Association, formerly known as the Spruce Head Community Club, now has more than 150 members, including generations of full-time and part-time residents, as well as summer visitors. Lifetime membership is 50 cents per person.
Additional tax-deductible donations to the Building Fund are most appreciated and can be sent to Spruce Head Community Hall and Historical Association, P.O. Box 323, Spruce Head, ME 04859. To receive updates, include email address.
